- Fantastic idea stops all the neds and hoodies hanging around the streets will their bast*rd children? Raise it to 25 I say! Saint Nessie fae Loch Ness. x
- The idea is good. The question is - does the retailers and wholesalers have only their profit in mind or will they play ball and try to assist the country to beat or at least better the problem .....
- It will make no difference whatsoever, kids can buy the booze illegally now - raising the limit doesn't change anything. As or the legal drinkers - what difference does raising the age from 18 to 21 make anyway? If a guy at 18 is old enough to work hard and earn money, why shouldn't he go to the pub and blow it up the wall? A better idea is to make drinking only legal for people who work for a living - stop the dole scum boozing their giro away!
- Maybe the rest of us will have less to pay in hospital bills if the Scots aren't allowed to drink so much.
- i think its a good idea.. even though alll the heavy drinkers are above 21, it will stop the younger lot from drinking on streets and hence, as a future benefit, they will be detered from drinking heavily.
- It will ensure that many Scots will come South of the border. I think drinking age in the UK should be switched to 21 - and government should increase taxes on drinks and ban sales promotions - i.e. they have to be sold at full price RRP with no discount. Also they should have two types of licence drink and food or just drink and massively reduce the latter. People need to eat as well as drink in this country and it should be made socially unacceptable to be drunk in public.
- What a great IDEA!! Not be so popular in Scotland as drinking is the national sport. But, living in Scotland and watching the mess of a lot of youngsters due to drink. I think it's a brilliant idea. Why not ban the life-wrecking, family breaking, soul destroying, addiction forming, self degrading stuff altogether? If we need to get intoxicated to enjoy ourselves, or to be happy, or increase our so-called happiness. Then does say much for the level of intelligence, doe it? How do you keep a nerd happy? You let him get pissed so he can look a real idiot for hours without trying. I never touched the stuff, after watching what it done to my dad and our family as a consequence. Drink don't make the man. And it certainly degrades woman as we can see by the females and their action when under the influence. Take care. Best wishes. You can stay dry and still get high. Look within. Gouranga
- At the moment it being 18 doesn't stop underagers either getting sold or getting it bought for.. at 16 i had friends that were 21 that would of bought drink for me and my friends or some random we asked would do it, so nope it wont make a blind bit of difference, if kids want drink they will get drink when your a teenager you find ways and means no matter what the age limit is!
- Personally speaking i would ban all alcohol in Scotland then send Brown, Blair and all the other Scottish MPs home!
- It might work, though I can't see it. It's 21 in the States and they don't have a problem. On the Continent children as young as five have a glass of wine with their evening meal and they don't have a problem, so therefore it must be part of our culture and until we change that, we will always have a problem.
- In Scotland yes, Could we also ban Scots like Brown etc, voting on English only matters in England?
- Might help a little but you get youngsters in their early teens drinking already and if they can get alchohol regardless of the age limit they will continue to do so.
- won`t make any difference at all, kids get adults to buy booze for them anyway and there is always the pub they can go in that`s 18 limit
